Hair Donation Guide

Donate Hair in Person or by Mail

Your hair can become confidence, hope, and education. Marcia’s Looks Foundation may use donated hair to create wigs, toppers, and other hair solutions for people affected by cancer, alopecia, or hardship. Donated hair may also support cosmetology education and professional training.

To protect the quality of every hair donation, please follow these instructions carefully.

Hair-Donation Requirements

Before donating your hair, please make sure it meets all of the following requirements:

  • Hair must be clean. Wash your hair before the donation appointment or before preparing it for mailing.

  • Hair must be completely dry. Never mail wet or damp hair.

  • Braid your hair before cutting it. This keeps the strands together and facing in the same direction.

  • Use a rubber band at both ends of the braid. Place one rubber band tightly at the top of the braid and another tightly at the bottom.

  • Secure both rubber bands very tightly. The hair must not become loose during cutting, handling, or shipping.

  • A standard donation must be at least 12 inches long. Measure the usable hair from the top rubber band to the ends.

Hair measuring less than 12 inches may still qualify for certain charitable or educational uses. In-person donors with less than 12 inches may qualify for a discounted haircut after our team evaluates their hair.

Donate Your Hair in Person

When you donate at least 12 inches of qualifying hair in person, Marcia’s Looks Foundation will cover the cost of your donation haircut—making the haircut complimentary for you.

Before Your Appointment

  1. Wash your hair before arriving.

  2. Arrive with clean, completely dry hair.

  3. Do not cut your hair before your appointment.

  4. Make sure you have at least 12 inches available to donate if you want to qualify for the complimentary haircut.

During Your Appointment

Our team will:

  1. Evaluate the length and condition of your hair.

  2. Separate the donation into one or more braids when needed.

  3. Secure each braid very tightly with a rubber band at the top and another at the bottom.

  4. Measure the usable donation from the top rubber band to the ends.

  5. Cut the hair above the top rubber band so the braid remains securely together.

  6. Complete your new haircut and prepare the donated hair for the Foundation.

Donating Less Than 12 Inches?

Your hair may still be useful. After evaluating its length and condition, our team will let you know whether we can accept it and whether your haircut qualifies for a discount.

Donate Your Hair by Mail

You can support the mission of Marcia’s Looks Foundation even if you cannot visit us in person. Follow every step below to protect your mail-in hair donation.

How to Prepare Your Hair for Mailing

  1. Wash your hair. It must be clean before you cut it.

  2. Dry it completely. Do not package or mail wet or damp hair, as moisture can damage the donation.

  3. Create a tight braid. If your hair is very thick, divide it into multiple smaller braids so each section stays secure.

  4. Secure the top. Place a rubber band very tightly where the donation will begin.

  5. Secure the bottom. Place a second rubber band very tightly at the end of the braid.

  6. Measure the donation. The usable hair should measure at least 12 inches from the top rubber band to the ends.

  7. Cut above the top rubber band. Make sure the braid stays tightly secured after you cut it.

  8. Check both rubber bands. Confirm that the hair cannot slide out or become loose.

How to Package Your Hair Donation

  1. Place the clean, completely dry, and tightly secured braid inside a resealable plastic bag.

  2. Seal the bag completely to protect the hair from moisture during shipping.

  3. Place the sealed bag inside a padded mailing envelope or small shipping box.

  4. Include a note with your:

    • Full name

    • Phone number

    • Email address

    • City and state

  5. Mail your donation using a service that provides tracking whenever possible.

Please keep your tracking number until delivery has been confirmed. Marcia’s Looks Foundation is not responsible for packages that are lost, damaged, or delivered to an incorrect address.

Important Donation Notice

Submitting hair does not guarantee that it can be used in a completed wig or topper. We evaluate every donation based on its length, condition, type, and suitability. We may use accepted hair for wigs, toppers, other hair solutions, educational demonstrations, or professional training.

By submitting your hair, you understand that it becomes a donation to Marcia’s Looks Foundation and will not be returned.
